“Everything happens for a reason.” Not totally convinced, I’ll think about it.
Today is an ‘Anniversary date. I really don’t like calling it an ‘anniversary date. Though the saying, “Everything happens for a reason” really bugs the crap out of me. But on this particular date, being at my parents’ house – eight years ago…was, for a reason. I had a business trip to Tampa, my parents live in Sarasota. So my brother from Daytona called and said: “Hey, I’m going to Sarasota, let’s meet at Mom n Dads while you’re here.” Perfect timing. The four of us sat in the living room laughing and reminiscing. The phone rings. Mom calls out “It’s for you Glenn. Kim sounds upset.” Glenn gets on the phone. His only child, his 18yr old son – killed in a car accident. We stood in disbelief. Just three years ago we buried our sister. And, many years ago – my son. At that moment the four of us together had lost a child. Glenn fell into my arms as our parents wrapped theirs, around us. Crazy thing too…we had all been there for each other – each time. As painful as it sounds, that “Everything happens for a reason” stuff…panned out this time. I don’t know. But, Gods timing for the four of us to be together…each time – was a blessing, I’ll always be grateful for that. Love and hugs to my brother and Kim today
